Mónica MC. Artivista
Born and raised in South King County to former campesinos from Mexico, Mónica Mendoza-Cawthon (AKA Móni La Artivista) has always had an eye for the ethereal and a passion for environmental & social justice.
Born a day before the Zapatista Uprising, she commits to carrying the legacy of their, and all other oppressed groups, messages in her work. Her decade working in advocacy and in the law, with a Juris Doctor, influences the research and themes behind her work.
She enjoys painting, drawing, writing, and performing poems and spoken word pieces. Her creative work is further inspired by her love of social and environmental justice, her Mexican culture, science fiction, and uplifting the LGBTQ community & non-Eurocentric standards of beauty.
Mónica's hope is that her art and cultural work inspires you to continue believing in your dreams, serve as a source of healing for yourself and your community, and that it empowers you to make a difference in the lives of others.
