Artist Statement

Mónica’s art style is recognizable as having bold colors, semi to fully realistic individuals with a surrealist background and frequent usage of mixed media. She enjoys creating art that celebrates her roots as a Xicana/Chicana born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, women of color, the diversity and power in culture, and her journey in spirituality.

She is most inspired by anything that shapes the world she wants to see; a better world for all. Her art evolves alongside her identity, and for that she is thankful, for her art has been a key cornerstone in healing the wounds that society oftentimes places not only on herself but others as well. Art has been a way of expressing what she feels, that words and political actions can't always portray.
